If you're considering Invisalign® clear aligners to straighten your smile, you may be wondering if Invisalign treatment is painful. Today our Coquitlam orthodontist shares a little about what you can expect from your Invisalign treatment.
Choosing The Right Orthodontic Treatment Option
Comfort is bound to be an important factor when considering your options for orthodontic treatment. Most of our patients undergoing Invisalign treatment tell us that the clear aligners don’t cause any pain as such, just slight discomfort that you gradually get used to and forget about after awhile.
Think of Invisalign aligners sort of like a new pair of shoes; once you've worn them for a while, you'll begin to get used to how they feel.
Adjusting to Invisalign Aligners
Just like getting traditional metal braces, there will be an adjustment period when you begin wearing your Invisalign aligners.
Also like braces, in order to move your teeth to their corrected positions Invisalign aligners need to put targeted, gentle pressure on your teeth. That pressure may cause some discomfort. This discomfort is commonly felt during the first few days after putting in a new set of aligners, then gradually wears off, until you switch to the next set in your series.
Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign doesn't have any metal brackets or wires, but the aligners could still irritate the soft tissues of your mouth while you are still becoming accustomed to them. Try to be patient, given a little time your gums and cheeks will toughen up and the aligners should no longer cause you discomfort.
