You're going to find that there are certain food you can’t eat during your orthodontic treatment. Dietary limitations can make packing a lunch of school or work difficult, so here are some ideas for convenient and filling snack options from our Coquitlam orthodontists.
Soft varieties of vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers are great as snack and packed lunch options, so are most cooked veggies. These nutritious foods are easy to prepare and store for quick access during your busy school or work week. Vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that will keep your body (and your teeth) healthy and strong.
Soft fruits including kiwi, watermelon, and grapes are refreshing and sweet. These fruit options also have lots of fibre to help keep you full between meals. You can simply cut your fruit up at the beginning of the week and store portions in your fridge in plastic baggies or Tupperware containers to grab and go.
Soft cheeses, yogurt and pudding are easy on your braces, are full of protein and calcium, and taste great! Usually these food options are easy to carry around, but keep in mind that they do need to be kept cool.
Meatballs, deli meats, and soft-cooked meats like chicken are high in protein and no problem at all for your braces. Add them to sandwiches or cook up a large batch in sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes and veggies throughout the week.
Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips
You will find loads of healthy cracker and veggie chip options available at the grocery store. Be sure to select low in sodium snacks if possible, and nothing too hard or crunchy. Enjoy these foods along with your soft cheeses and fruit for a simple and delicious lunch!
