Books About Braces - ‘Smile’ by Raina Telgemeier

‘Smile’, a graphic novel by Raina Telgemeier, is all about the challenges of being a middle schooler going through orthodontic treatment.

The main character of ‘Smile’ by Raina Telgemeier is Raina, who wants nothing more than to be a normal 6th grader.

One fateful night, however, Raina has a fall in which she damages her two front teeth. The result? A long and sometimes frustrating orthodontic  journey involving surgery, braces, cringe-worthy headgear… and even a retainer with false teeth attached.

And of course, Raina also has to navigate the typical confusion about boys and the social issues that come with being in middle school.

Both adults and kids will be able to relate to this sweet and funny coming of age story – especially anyone who has ever suffered through those middle school years with the addition of some dental drama!
