Taking Good Pictures with Braces

Taking Good Pictures with Braces

We all know it can be tough to look our best in pictures, and doing it with braces is even tougher! These tip and ideas will help you take a better picture while wearing braces.

Choose a low-profile braces option.

If you use Invisalign clear aligners, which are made of effectively invisible clear plastic, the fact that you're having your teeth straightened won't really be noticeable in person, let alone in pictures. Invisalign may not be right for you, but don't despair! There other less noticeable braces choices that won’t be as obvious in pictures as traditional braces would be.

Lingual braces are a good example of this. Applied to the backs of your teeth your teeth, they won’t show at all when you’re smiling for a picture.

Another good low-profile choice is In-Ovation Self-Ligating braces. Because they don't require ties or elastics, these are smaller and therefore less noticeable than traditional metal braces.

This is also true of ‘translucent’ ceramic braces. The brackets on these are made of a tooth-coloured ceramic material that blends in really well with the colour of your teeth, so your braces stand out less.

Colour your smile!

The elastics that go on braces come in pretty much any colour, so you can choose a colour that suits you best, and gives you that small confidence boost. In other words, you can look at your braces as an accessory and express yourself with them!

When it comes to having your picture taken, you can pick a colour that looks nice with your eye colour or skin tone. Choose darker coloured braces can make your teeth look whiter and brighter. Most people are better of avoiding white braces, as can make your teeth look a bit darker and more yellow, and browns and certain greens can look like food stuck in your teeth.

Maintain a good oral hygiene routine.

Your teeth will inevidtably look better if they're clean and healthy! So brush and floss your teeth often, and be sure to clean your braces themselves carefully so that your smile look its best. Good oral hygiene will mean you won't have to worry about having pictures taken with food stuck in your teeth, or with discoloured teeth due to lack of care.

Smile with confidence!

The most attractive smiles are happy, confident ones, so own your braces, and don’t hold hesitate to smile in pictures. Practice smiling at yourself in the mirror when you first get your braces, so that you grow accustomed to your new appearance more quickly. And keep reminding yourself: you look great with your braces!
